The Silk Cut Award for Linocut Prints

I was very happy to open a letter from the Glen Eira City Council and find that my print Marriage Line had been accepted in the above award. This print featured on the invitation to the Impress exhibition below.

Anyone who is keen on linocuts should note that this award, which is highly regarded in Australia is open to international artists also. Check out the link and perhaps put it in your diary for next time.

I went to the site http://www.silkcutlino.com/
and I found the images very small. It is hard to see someone's work in this size.

  4. Hey that is good news I think lino is a great medium coz u can work it intaglio or relief or both ...and etch it too !! Well done on getting your piece accepted.

When do you have to submit the prints - I mean what time of year. I have been to the site and put myself on their mailing list.

  5. from memory it was june but you should download the entry form as soon as it comes out because the dates might change. I think it is best to work naturally without timelines for awards and then you have good work on hand to submit, so start work now for next year! good luck

  6. Hi Georgina
I ordered and then reasonably quickly received the catalogue and am going to look in it, right now this minute to see your print..................................................................................................................Oh Yeah just found it............. .I had noticed it when I first looked through the catalogue which is very well produced.

Overall the technical standard is very high but there are works included that are just gorgeous without being super technically realized - if you see what I mean. (Gives people like me some hope) Be nice if you could post a jpg of your print so we could click on it and get a good look at it. Did you print it intaglio and relief.

Anyway yes - I will give it a bash AND you are quite right in that one should just get on with exploring the medium so that the prints are there when the deadline comes around anyway. I happen to think linoleum is an underrated medium/material in any event.

    best wishes

  7. Hi Aine

There is a photo of the print earlier in the blog. I printed this relief, I never really use lino any other way. I believe that if your print is accepted it is OK to send it unframed, although definately most people send their prints framed. I know someone who sent theirs unframed as they did not have the funds to pay for a large framed print. Also atleast one of the winning prints in the past have not been framed. Anyhow good luck, I look forward to seeing your succesful entry.
